Andrew J. Imparato was the featured guest speaker for the University of Pittsburgh’s Thornburgh Family Lecture Series on Disability Law and Policy on November 4, 2010. The title of Mr. Imparato's presentation was, “From Civil Rights to Economic Well-Being: New Directions in Disability Law and Policy.”
Mr. Imparato is the president and chief executive officer of the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), the largest nonprofit, nonpartisan, cross-disability membership organization in the United States. AAPD was founded in 1995 to organize and unite the disability community to be a powerful voice for political, economic, and social change.
In 2008, Imparato worked with a coalition of more than 200 disability, employer, civil rights, and faithbased groups to guide the successful political strategy that led to the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Amendments Act, a critical law that restored protections under the ADA to millions of Americans with epilepsy, diabetes, depression, cancer, and a wide range of other conditions.
